Lee Fenton - Warehouse Development Manager Joined Us In 2002
I began working at Heron Foods as a warehouse operative in our old Walcott Street depot. Back then we were shunting roll cages around by hand and picking orders for around 100 stores. It was hard work but I enjoyed it and the banter with colleagues.
So much has changed for me since then and for the company, now we use electric barrows or LOLOPS to move stock and I’ve been through four promotions, from team leader to supervisor to operations manager and now warehouse development manager, meanwhile Heron has moved to a new National Distribution Centre and grown to 240 plus stores.
“I’m proud to say I work at Heron - it’s a great success story and I couldn’t imagine working anywhere else.
I’ve had to work hard to progress my career but the great thing is that the opportunities were there for me to aim for. I’m now project managing in the introduction of Voice Pick - which is a great responsibility and really interesting”.
Andy Barratt - Transport Manager Joined Us In 1981
2015 marks my 34th year at Heron Foods. I joined in 1981 as a Factory Butcher on a Youth Training Scheme earning just £17 a week! My career since has flourished, I passed my driving test and later gained my HGV Class 1 licence and became a delivery driver. It was great, I carried out daily deliveries to stores around the region.
The experience gave me great insight into how the logistics worked. I knew I could offer more and I felt the knowledge I had gained would help develop the Transport Office and warehouse operation. Heron supported me and soon after I became transport manager passing a Certificate of Professional Competence along the way.
Heron have helped me develop my knowledge and provided training, opportunities and promotions. If they see talent they like to keep it - great people give the company a real advantage.
“Everyone has the chance to develop their careers at Heron Foods and the company offers support every step of the way.”
Be at the forefront of our operation helping customers and ensuring the smooth running of our stores.
Efficiency at our heart making sure stock is where it needs to be when it is needed.
